I also don't think that it is restrictive because it only describes a minimum set of requirements. Matt also discussed the fact that kernel features are not described by the LSB, so it can be a standard that applies to Solaris, or FreeBSD-debian. :) The next presentation was from three guys who love Debian, but don't love the linux kernel, Andreas Schuldei , Nathan Hawkins, and Matthew Garrett.
